Occupation
Extract from "Andersons in South Australia" by Graham Silvy. "Carpestane" - 150 acre sheep farm on the baronial estate of Sir George Grant-Suttie, 5th Baronet of Balgone and Prestongrange). Said to be the most prolific farming area in Great Britain, located not far from the village of Kingston and only a few kilometres from Dirleton Castle, East Lothian two miles west of North Berwick, Scotland.
Note
James Anderson and his family left from this hamlet to live in Australia in 1839. They settled in Adelaide where they tried to be market gardeners and their home was called 'Burnside' - now a suburb of the city, but later they moved and our branch of the family eventually ended up in New South Wales.
