Tonight is to plan to stay at Cobar.
We packed up then were straight onto the highway.
It was another very long and straight drive. There was not much traffic either.
We were going to stop at Wilcannia, but the town seemed to be closed. The main shop in the main street was all boarded up. We didn't drive around, though I there was a fuel station there.
Instead we kept going down the road and stopped at a tiny fuel station, cafe and pub in the middle of nowhere. It is actually up for sale and looks like a great idea for an outback art studio.
It was run by a single bloke. He was quite old and there were pictures of him at a much younger age on the wall. He was cooking us all lunch with steak sandwiches and such. He would always have to stop, go and and fuel someone, go and serve someone getting icecream or drinks and then cook again. This took quite a while but we weren't in any hurry.
We hit the road again and then arrived at Cobar. By this time we all felt like continuing and getting to Gilgandra for some comfy beds and solid roof.
The country side on the other side (east side) of Cobar looked so lush. After all the outback places, seeing grass growing wildly on the sides of the road is a novilty.
We continued on and eventually made it to Gilgandra after dark. Nice to be back on familiar territory.

Hit the road, again

More outback landscapes to view

Wilcannia, half way between Broken hill and Cobar. Used to be a major town when the Darling river used to flow and ferries ran from here to Adelaide. It's not too much of a thriving town anymore.

A road house in the middle of nowhere. Not many along these roads

Lots and lots of wild goats in this area. Can't believe that we can't see any in all the photos.

The long and not winding road.

Touch country out here

More trees and vegetation once again
